WELCOME BACK

It’s amazing to think we are launching into Term 4. It makes us wonder where the year has gone! We have enjoyed hearing from our students about all the exciting activities they have been up to over the holidays with their families. Term 4 promises to be an exciting term with a variety of special events, powerful learning and celebrations of our year together.

YEAR 1 BIG NIGHT IN

We have had a great start to Term 4 and it was an absolute pleasure being a part of the Year 1 Big Night in. Our students were so excited and the teachers had planned engaging activities for them to participate in. Thank you to the Year 1 team Molly Sweeney, Georgie Parker, Renee Waller, Lucy McDonald, Marie Monterosso and Beba Stojmanovski and the many teachers from other year levels who helped out: Claire Brooks, Julianne Power, Catherine Hales, Adrienne Keys, Stav Karabatos, Lee Harrison, Amy Liu, Amanda Young, Alex Slattery and even Lucy McDonald’s Mum.

SWIMMING PROGRAM

It has been outstanding to see many of our F-2 students participating in our swimming program over the last two weeks. This is a very important program and is an essential part of the extra-curricular activities we offer at McKinnon. Next year we look forward to all our students participating in this program and developing their water safety ability which is essential for the Australian lifestyle. Thank you to Mr Hislop for his organisation of this event and to all teachers involved in supporting this highly important program.

DIWALI CELEBRATION @ MCKPS

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights celebrated every year. We have many members of our community who are currently celebrating this event. Our community is keen to acknowledge the celebration and embrace the diversity in our school.  So we have planned a small celebration in recognition of the Festival of Light.

When:                 Monday 30th October @ 5:30 – 6:30pm

Where:                On the fake grass near the Year 5 classrooms

What to bring:    A plate to share with ingredients clearly labeled, torches (please no sparklers due to fire danger)

What to wear:    Traditional dress or what you feel comfortable in

Who:                   Everyone is welcome!

We cannot wait to see students from our McKinnon PS community dancing and there will be plenty of music, delicious food to share. If you would like to be involved and help with the organisation of this event please contact: Dharshini on 0420 669 604 or Mudita on 0430 460 382.

TERM 4 WORKING BEE DATE

Please make sure you put aside Saturday 11th November for the Term 4 working bee. We would love to see as many people as possible. So come along and join the fun and help support our school. More information to come.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK

Due to a change in legislation all parents volunteering at school need to be in the possession of a volunteer working with children check. So it would be a great idea for all parents to organise this as soon as they can, to avoid missing out on being involved in activities where children are present. Please follow the link for more information http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/home/about+the+check/

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Suzanne Khatib who has been appointed the Acting Assistant Principal until the end of the year.

SUNSMART

A reminder to ensure all students have an appropriate Sunsmart hat to wear during Term 4. Please make sure these are adequately named and labelled to avoid lost property.

ATHLETICS

Congratulations to the students who this week represented the school at the division athletics carnival. It was great to see the spirit and endeavour displayed by those students involved. We had some wonderful performances from our students with some now moving on to the zone athletics competition.

Have a great weekend,

Simone, Ben and Suzanne
