Last week we conducted a special whole school assembly to present our Student Leader badges. Congratulations to all our student leaders, we all wish them well in completing their roles in 2017. Our School Vice Captains did an amazing job of running the assembly and their confidence is growing with every assembly they conduct. It was great to have Nick Staikos on hand to present all the badges to our students.
Throughout the week our school was a hype of activity and students had the opportunity to participate in a range of activities that help promote their wellbeing. On Tuesday many parents, grandparents, past students and prospective families came out to see what was happening at McKinnon during the school day and evening.
We thank our enthusiastic class mentors Natisha Gollen, Rusha Shah, Alex Boni-Finch, Thivian Salwathura, Monique Adamson, Korben Brough, Jessica Ida-Reed and Skyler Hunt, for conducting student led tours. Our visitors were certainly impressed by the display of school pride and the articulate, confident and knowledgeable manner in which our student leaders represented the school.
We hope you enjoyed our students showcasing their recent Unit of Inquiry and connecting with the theme of Education Week – Healthy Minds, Healthy Body. We continue to provide our students with positive education strategies through a range of wellbeing practices. These include, circle time, mindfulness, promotion of healthy eating habits, physical activity, understanding self and your emotions through Kimochi characters, learning about our individual character strengths to grow and develop emotional intelligence and of course connecting on a deeper level with each PYP Learner Profile and Attitudes through each unit of study.
The message of Education Week is very clear and we always aim for our students to be happy, healthy and resilient. Thanks also to our teachers, the organising committee for special events, students’ participation, and to all of our families who came along to celebrate with us.
MUMS NIGHT OUT
Our mums had a terrific night out to help celebrate their Mothers’ Day. There were lots of laughs with Libbi Gorr and Sarah Kinsella. Thank you to our Parent Club for organising this event.
All our Year 3 to 6 students had their best running shoes on last week as they ran a large lap of the McKinnon Oval. Our top ten students from each age group will go on to compete at the District competition. Well done to all our students for having a go and being a part of it. A big thank you also needs to go to Dylan Hislop and Peter Scarfo for organising the event and all the teachers and parents who helped out on the day.
Our Marketing and Communication School Council committee has drafted a Sponsorship Policy based on DET guidelines. This policy has been attached to the newsletter post for your review.
