DIWALI FESTIVAL

Diwali Festival was sensational on Tuesday night with our community coming out to share in the fun. A huge thank you to Dharshini who organised the event and the many others who helped dress the staff in saris and cooked such delicious food for our community. A special mention to our student performers who stole the show on the night.

FAREWELL BEBA STOJMANOVSKI

Last Thursday we celebrated and farewelled Beba Stojmanovski, a long-standing staff member of McKinnon Primary. Beba is a positive and enthusiastic teacher who contributed significantly to our school community. As a staff, we recounted her highlights and incidents from her extensive teaching career. If you or your child would like to send Beba a message please send to the office and we will pass it on to her. We wish Beba well in her retirement on behalf of the school community and hope she enjoys her time travelling through Europe very soon.

FOUNDATION TRANSITION

Foundation transition comes to an end this week with our very special Teddy Bears Picnic completing the sessions. Last week the Year Five students shared their perspective of school life at McKinnon Primary. The group did an outstanding job. Thank you to Alice, Marc, Otis, Charli, Victoria, Mohammed, Donald and Jasmine. The parents were extremely impressed by how knowledgeable our students were about what the school has to offer.

We would also like to thank the Year Three and Year Five teachers who assisted the current Foundies during these transition sessions and the Year Five students who helped out in the classroom.

STEP UP SESSIONS

Next week all students will be participating in two “step-up” sessions. These sessions are designed to show the students the highlights of the year ahead and to give them a taste of what life will be like next year.

SCHOOL REVIEW

Next year our school will take part in the DET school review process. This is a time where we review the last strategic plan, recognise the achievements during this period and shape future direction for the next four years. Currently, the school leaders are gathering data to reflect on as part of the process. We would like our parents to be a part of this by contributing their thoughts to the process as well. As a result of this, we have created a parent survey to help inform future directions and to celebrate success. Please use this link to share your thoughts and provide useful feedback for our review. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZDMYFVJ

Additionally, we will be running parent forums on Wednesday 6th February 2019 at 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. Please mark these in your diary.

SCHOOL COUNCIL UPDATE

On the links below you will find the review of the work of the School Council for 2018 and future directions. Please take the time to have a read and remember you are very welcome to join a subcommittee next year. If you are interested in a particular area, just email the school with 2019 committee member in the subject and we will forward it on to the convenor. We have also included the dates and times of the committee meetings for next year in this newsletter.

On Tuesday 18th December, the students will meet their 2019 home group teacher and classmates. As a staff, we have focused on creating the most connected learning communities by ensuring teams are placed as close as possible. We are currently finalising teacher placement and will confirm this in the near future.
