This week we welcomed back our Sister School, which has been a highly rewarding experience for everyone involved. On Wednesday 24th July, the students were lucky enough to attend Government House for a reception with the Governor Linda Dessau AC Governor of Victoria. Throughout the reception, they recognised the important relationships that form through Sister School connections and reciprocal visits. Thank you so much to the families who have volunteered for the homestay and a special thank you to Mr William Meng who has organised the visit. It has been a huge success and a true reflection of our International Mindedness.

“I really liked playing with Michael on the Wii at my house, and I really loved having little chats every night before we went to bed. We just talked about our days.”
– Oliver Wilson, 5C.

“I went to a jumping place with my homestay buddy and everyday we went somewhere different to show them around like big parks and shopping for souvenirs. Tomorrow we’re going to pat kangaroos.”

-Shahar Naaman, 5C.

Please come along to our School Council annual public meeting being held on Monday 19th August at 6pm in the staffroom. During this time we will discuss the school 2018 Annual Report which is available on the website. During the meeting, we will be discussing the highlights of the 2018 year and the future directions as outlined by our strategic plan review.

We have begun to install our CCTV system throughout the school. Over the next month, thirteen cameras will be installed. The School Council approved a new CCTV Policy which is available on Compass and our school website.

We are also in the process of upgrading our locks in the Learning Centre to improve security. As we have had a number of alarm activations throughout the administration centre and Learning Centre.  From next week, the only entry point for students and families will be from the south side of the Learning Centre (outside the Year Five classrooms). This also supports the atmosphere that is created in the Learning Centre, as it will no longer be used as a walk through area.

Maximising your child’s attendance and promoting school as a very important place to be every day is a critical step in ensuring your child’s optimum conditions for learning.

Did you know that a child missing one day a fortnight will miss four weeks in a year, and more than a whole year of school by Year Ten? It is important that children develop regular attendance habits at an early age.

Missing whole days or part of a day of school can leave students feeling like they have entered a movie halfway through and have missed the introduction and plot of the film, struggling to piece together what is happening. We want all our students to feel at their most confident in their learning and set them up for success.

Please make sure you submit any enrolment forms to the office as soon as possible as we are currently in the process of confirming enrolments for next year. If you are planning on leaving Mckinnon Primary in 2020, it would be greatly appreciated if you could notify the school as soon as possible.

Please support us to promote school pride by always ensuring your child is sent to school wearing the school uniform.

A huge thank you to all the families who participated in the recent Woolworths Earn and Learn sticker collection. We received over 41,000 stickers during the promotion. The SRC met on Wednesday and decided to use the points to purchase robotics for the students to use during their coding sessions. Robotics help promote problem-solving, creativity, engineering along with team building. We hope to have these robots in our school by Term Four. Special thanks to Robyn Leicester who organised the collection and counting of all the stickers.

The ICAS enrolment period has been extended for all families. The enrolment period for these assessments, which are available to Year Four – Year Six students only, have been extended until Wednesday 14th August. Further information can be found at

We were all treated today to our Year One’s becoming scientists for a day and sharing their learning with other students and parents.

Have a great weekend
