FATHER’S DAY STALL
We have just been celebrating the special men in our students’ lives. The students were so excited to buy gifts at the Fathers’ Day Stall. This event for the students could not have happened without the amazing team of parent volunteers. A very big THANK YOU to Florence Giazi and her incredible team for all the hard work involved in organising, setting up and working on the stall.
Today the Year Three and Year Five students received their NAPLAN results. Well done to all our students on completing this national assessment task. Overall our students performed extremely well and were well above the national benchmark. Thank you to all the students and teachers involved in this process.
IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDANCE REMINDER
Maximising your child’s attendance and promoting school as a very important place to be every day is a critical step in ensuring your child’s optimum conditions for learning.
Please remember there are no safe numbers of days for missing school. Each day a student misses puts them behind and affects their educational outcomes.
Some of the department slogans include:
EVERY DAY COUNTS!
LEARNING STARTS AT 9!
LET US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS AWAY
WORKING TOGETHER = SUCCESS
Missing whole days or part of a day of school can leave students feeling like they have entered a movie halfway through and have missed the introduction and plot of the film struggling to piece together what is happening. We want all our students to feel at their most confident in their learning and set them up for success.
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL
The Student Representative Council is currently designing slogans and positive messages to remind us all of the importance of being at school. We cannot wait to see what inspiring messages our students come up with!
THE MUSICAL SOIREE
What a night! Our ears were treated to the pleasure of thirty four performances from across Years Foundation-Year Six. We heard an array of eclectic and classical instruments and heard the magnificent voices of our young students.
A huge THANK YOU to Robert Minshull and the large team of staff who volunteered to help out all night. We have loved and looked forward to this evening since it began at McKinnon a number of years ago and appreciate that we would not be able to hold such a special event without this help.
MCKINNON WELLBEING MODEL
In 2019 we are launching our McKinnon Wellbeing Model. This model shows the multitude of positive education strategies we have at McKinnon across the year levels. We launched this last Wednesday with a whole school McKinnon Mindful Moment in which all students in the school took part in a mindful activity at exactly the same time.
Many of these strategies on the model were also shared at information nights at the beginning of this year and wellbeing night at the end of 2018. If you would like any further information on some of these areas you can find informative parent flyers on Growth Mindsets, Gratitude, Zones of Regulation and Restorative Practices on Compass, in the Wellbeing folder, these are also available in Mandarin.
We are now in September and it marks the beginning to our SunSmart Policy. School hats need to be worn from now until the end of the year. Please remember to bring and wear your school hat on Monday. NO HAT, NO PLAY. School hats are available to purchase from PSW on North Rd and the school office.
REMINDER Preparation for 2020 Classes Begin
As we begin our process of 2020 class placement the first step is to confirm student numbers for 2020. The second step is to provide an opportunity for parents to have input into their child’s class placement if they believe there is a specific learning need their child has.
Please find attached to this Compass post information regarding the 2020 Class Placement process. Included in the attachment are details about the criteria for writing a request for your child’s class placement and a process for notifying the school if you are leaving in 2019. This information helps to facilitate the process for class placement which is thorough and complex. Please read the attachment for more information. Parent request deadline is the end of this term, Friday 20th September 2019. Please email your request to the school’s email with Class Placement 2020 in the subject line.
Please be aware of the various parking restrictions around the school. There has been an increased vigilance in neighbouring streets with fines and infringement notices being issued.
CHINA STUDY TOUR
In ten days seventeen students and four staff members will be heading to our sister school in Changzhou. We are very excited about this trip and look forward to sharing this experience with the whole school when we return.
YEAR SIX EXHIBITION
Next week the Year Six students will be presenting their exhibitions. This year’s theme is the human body. The students have been hard at work preparing for this major event and we look forward to seeing their efforts on Thursday 12th September.
Have a great weekend
