International Student Program
At McKinnon Primary School we are committed to the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme which prepares students to be active participants in their learning, as an inquirer both in the classroom and in the world outside. The underlying focus of the programme brings about an international perspective in our students, which would be both accommodating and welcoming to our overseas students.
We pride ourselves on the pastoral care of all our students. We maintain small classes to enable students to work closely with their classroom teachers who become very familiar with the individual needs of each child and their families. ESL teachers and literacy support personnel assist international students with language acquisition.
McKinnon Primary School is committed to providing, personal and cultural education to its international students, meeting all Department of Education & Early Childhood (DEECD) policies and guidelines in relation to their needs.
The school has a fulltime ISC coordinator who is responsible for monitoring all academic progress and welfare of students. International students would have the opportunity to share in the fun of learning English alongside our students and would be able to participate in many whole school, wellbeing and community based activities.
Cultural exchange with local students, buddy programs and special interest activities, such as sport, incursions, excursions, visual arts, performing arts, ICT, Rock and Water, Bluearth,-(developing self esteem through physical activity) and student leadership courses would all be provided to our international students as well as customised special interest/cultural tours when possible.
