Principal’s Message
As Principal, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of our students, staff and families at McKinnon Primary School.
At McKinnon Primary School we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and dynamic learning environment where every student can thrive. Our dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to ensure that each child is supported academically, socially, and emotionally. Our teachers have a strong commitment to lifelong learning.
Our school sets high expectations in learning and wellbeing for our students, staff and families. We value high-impact teaching of English and Mathematics and extend learning through The Humanities, LOTE (Mandarin), Performing Arts, Physical Education, Health, STEM and Visual Arts. Our school is also accredited to deliver the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP), designed to foster a love of learning and deliver well-rounded, inquiring, and knowledgeable learners.
We believe that education is a partnership between the school and families, and we encourage you to be actively involved in your child’s learning journey. Whether through our School Council, Parents Club, volunteering, working bees, or simply staying informed about school events, your engagement is vital to our collective success.

Our Vision
McKinnon Primary School is committed to developing internationally minded learners in a safe and nurturing environment, where students are empowered to develop 21st century skills and attitudes.
Our Mission
The teaching and learning culture at McKinnon Primary School inspires learners to inquire, reflect and understand in an inclusive and safe environment.
An ongoing partnership between home and school is established and nurtured for every child to foster their social, emotional, physical, intercultural and academic development. Each child is supported to reach their full potential.
Students are motivated to become active life-long learners who develop respect, compassion, caring and understanding for their role as global citizens.
International Baccalaureate Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Racism is not tolerated at McKinnon Primary School
McKinnon Primary School is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment where racism is not tolerated. Racism harms students’ mental health, learning and sense of belonging. We celebrate the diversity of cultures, ethnicities and faiths of all our students. It is up to all of us at McKinnon Primary School to make our school a place that is free of racism and where everyone feels respected and can learn in a safe and inclusive environment.
What McKinnon Primary School is doing to prevent racism
McKinnon Primary School follows the Department of Education’s Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy. We are building a culturally safe school with inclusive learning for everyone by working with staff, students, families, carers and communities. We will:
- provide programs that teach about and celebrate diversity, inclusion and the impact of racism to build understanding and empathy
- use practices that support all students to thrive
- implement anti-racism efforts to prevent and address racism effectively
- make sure everyone feels safe, with clear and accessible pathways to report racism
- celebrate students’ diverse backgrounds through visual displays, events and mother-tongue literature in the library.
- plan and implement rich units of learning at all year levels which celebrate diversity, cultural awareness and foster international-mindedness and encourage students to see multiple perspectives.
What to do if your child experiences or witnesses racism at school
If your child experiences or witnesses racism or religious discrimination at school, please let us know. You can tell your child’s teacher or contact the leadership team at the school email address: mckinnon.ps@education.vic.gov.au

If you don’t feel comfortable reporting racism to school, or you are not happy with the school’s response, you can report racism to:
