STUDENT LEADER BADGE PRESENTATION

It was an assembly of celebration last Thursday as our Year Six student leaders and Student Representative Council (SRC) received their badges. A big thank you to Nick Staikos MP who came along to share this special event. The school captains Ting Ting, Kingsley, Harish and Riva gave superb speeches, outlining their commitment to leading the school on behalf of all our students. A special thank you to Shawnee Arranga and Molly Sweeney for leading the student selection process and to Catherine Hales and Chris Barker for the organisation of the assembly. It was a lovely celebration to be a part of and even though all of our students were watching from their classrooms, it was so nice to be able to welcome parents to the assembly to be a part of this event with their children.

A NEW DOOR FOR THE GYM

Our door into the gym from Tucker road has been completed. This is already making life easier for our PE teachers as they can access the yard and the ovals without having to walk around the main building or through the main administration area. It has also been a welcomed modification for the parents who utilise our Team Kids before and after care, as access to the staff and the gym has improved significantly with the addition of the door.

KINGSTON DIVISION SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Congratulations to our swimmers who went off and competed at the Kingston Division Swimming Carnival on Monday. They all have done extremely well to make it this far and represented our school with pride and resilience. Congratulations to those who have made it to the next competition level.

WHOLE SCHOOL ART MURAL

In our learning centre our whole school mural is starting to take shape. It is a picture of collaboration across Foundation to Year Six and our Art captains will have more to share about its creation in the next newsletter.

CURRICULUM DAY

The staff curriculum day was extremely successful with educational neuroscientist Dr Jarrod Cooney Horvarth from Melbourne University working with the staff. The focus of the day detailed how we learn and how we can use our knowledge of how the brain operates to support this learning process. Given this day fell within Harmony Week and Cultural Diversity Week, staff enjoyed a special lunch from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) who provide support and empowerment programs for people in the community seeking protection. Thank you to Chris Barker for organising this day.

ACCIDENTS HAPPEN

We would like to remind families that the Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents/carers of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs.

It is the responsibility of parents/carers to look into their preferred options for insurance/ambulance cover. The Department cannot provide advice to families on the purchase of individual student accident policy or ambulance cover.

Private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the Department does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage.

This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. As the Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property, students and staff should be discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.
