BULLYING NO WAY DAY

Last Friday was ‘Bullying No Way!’ Day at McKinnon. SRC members led the discussion around what bullying is, what to do if you are being bullied and how to help others experiencing it.

Students celebrated the day by reading anti-bullying books and stories on breaking stereotypes, finding ways to fill each other’s ‘buckets’, creating ‘kindness trees’ with pledges and messages of kindness and making displays of how they can make a difference and stand up to bullying.

CLASSROOM HELPER TRAINING

Dr Andrea Truckenbrodt facilitated two parent helpers training sessions this week. It was great to see many of our parents attend the session and are now all set to help out in the classrooms.

 TRAVELLING TO SCHOOL

We remind all families to utilise our school crossings when approaching and leaving our school. The school is surrounded by busy streets that provide potential dangers when crossing roads and travelling home. There have been concerning reports in recent times of some students scooting dangerously around our neighbouring streets. Please be sure that any students who choose to ride or scoot to school wears appropriate safety helmets and stays well away from the roads, utilising the footpaths.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE – THANK YOU TO BUNNINGS

Great to see we were able to host our first sausage sizzle on Tuesday. The Parent Club have been brilliant in organising this event. A big thank you to the new coordinators Sukant and Mark. Bunnings have also come through and donated an additional BBQ to support our termly sausage sizzles. Thank you to Sukant for sourcing this donation.

A special shout-out to 5B’s teacher Andrew Lusted who cleaned all the rust off the BBQs and made sure they were all in working order and to Robyn who coordinated the volunteers and the tickets for the kids. A big thank you to all our volunteers who helped out on the day. It certainly has been a team effort.

The termly sausage sizzles raise valuable funds on behalf of the Parent Club. At our last Parent Club meeting it was decided that all the funds raised this year by Parent Club go towards increasing the amount of shade and seating we have on the Eastern site (tennis court side).

 WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS

A reminder to all parents/carers about the need for all people who help in the classroom, on excursions and camps or any other times when adults are with children, that they require a Working With Children Check. This can be obtained by logging on to the Department of Justice website; www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au Please remember to nominate McKinnon Primary School as one of your organisations when applying.

YEAR FOUR CAMP

The Year 4 Campers have all arrived back safely, looking a little weary after an action-packed camp. The students had a great time even though the weather did mean  modification of some of the activities. Thank you to the Year Four Team for their leadership of this event and additional staff who attended, Kieran Reith, Jess Bence, Tania Costello, Hannah Macklow, David Kefaloukos and Chris Barker.
