PRINCIPALS’ DAY TODAY

Our beautiful staff, led by the staff wellbeing team made us feel very special today as we celebrated Principals’ Day with a delicious morning tea in the staffroom with everyone. Our students also shared special messages with us as well. It was a terrific way to finish off a busy week and celebrate a Friday!

100 DAYS OF SCHOOL FOR OUR FOUNDATION STUDENTS

It was a fabulous celebration of 100 Days of school for our Foundation students. To celebrate, students dressed as though they were all 100 years old. There were many old people around with lovely pearls, walking sticks, grey hair and glasses!

Congratulations to all the Foundation students for a successful 100 days of school this year.

ENROLMENTS AND DEPARTURES

If you have a child who will be starting school next year, please contact the office ASAP as staffing for 2023 is underway. Thank you to the parents who have already submitted their enrolment forms.
Additionally, if your family is leaving McKinnon PS in 2023, please notify the office as soon as possible so they are not included in the classroom placement process.

APPOINTMENTS IN SCHOOL TIME

To support your child’s learning we ask that parents make appointments (such as dentist and doctor) outside of school time. If the appointment is urgent, please liaise with the class teacher and the office to ensure your child is aware of the pickup time and is waiting at the office for you at the agreed time. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

YEAR SIX EXHIBITION

Students and teachers are very excited to be underway with this year’s exhibition! Using the theme of science and technology, students have already connected to prior knowledge, investigated big ideas and developed questions around topics of interest. Currently they are collaborating and developing plans with their peers, teachers and mentors (each group works with a mentor teacher from another class and year level).

Some of the topics include forensic science, architecture, mental illness, aeronautical engineering, artificial intelligence, medical innovations, ethics of genetic engineering and many more.

The Year Six Exhibition is a wonderful celebration of learning that highlights student independence and inquiring minds and we are looking forward to supporting and watching these investigations unfold.

The exhibition event will be on Wednesday 7th of September and will be open to parents and family.

SCIENCE WEEK

Starting on the 15th of August, McKinnon will be surrounded by safety glasses and laboratory coats as we launch into Science Week. Students will be making connections to different scientific topics in their classrooms and Year Three students will once again put on their own ‘mini-exhibition’ of science all week in the Learning Centre.

Please look for a Compass post on how your own child can join in the activities of Science Week.
