SOIREE/END OF YEAR WHOLE SCHOOL BBQ

We would like to invite the whole school community to attend the Years Three-Six Soiree which will be presented during the end of year whole school BBQ on Thursday 8th December from 5pm to 7.30pm. Some very enthusiastic and talented students have signed up to perform in the soiree. We have a mixture of performances including several instrumentalists, as well as the school choir performing four fun Christmas songs.
If your child has signed up to perform you will receive information shortly about programming and timing. If your child has not yet signed up but plays an instrument and is confident to perform, you could encourage them to talk to Mrs Baldock or their teacher before next Friday, 2nd December. Once we finalise our performers a schedule of the evening will be available on Compass.
After the huge success of the Junior School Concert, we are looking forward to another wonderful community event bringing families together to celebrate the year and our amazing students.

JUNIOR SCHOOL CONCERT

On Wednesday 16th November, students in Foundation to Year Two had their Junior School Concert. The concert was a huge success and such a fantastic event for our school community to enjoy. It was great to see so many families in our gym enjoying what was an amazing performance from all of our students on stage. Well done to all our performers!

A very special thank you and congratulations to Sally Baldock for organising the concert. It would not have been such a success without her hard work and dedication. Another thank you goes to Rochelle Ballard and Claire Brooks who added their artistic talents to supporting the design and creation of the costumes.

ELECTION PROMISE

Debbie Taylor-Haynes, our local candidate visited us to make an election promise which involved Mckinnon Primary School receiving $12.6 million funding for new buildings. This matches the commitment from our local member, Nick Staikos.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAY (PPD) – NO STUDENTS REQUIRED

A reminder that McKinnon PS staff will have their PPD on Monday 28th of November and students will not be required at school on that day.

SEMESTER TWO REPORTS

All students will receive their semester two reports on Friday 9th December via Compass. If you wish to receive a hard copy of your child’s report please inform the office by Wednesday 7th December.

TRANSITION

We are very mindful of ensuring a smooth and supported transition for students as they move on to their next year level. As a part of this process, we have begun our transition program. There will be three transition sessions in total which will involve providing students with information and greater insight into what to expect next year. In the third session children will meet their 2023 class teacher and visit their new classroom.

FOUNDATION TRANSITION

Foundation transition has two more weeks left, with students meeting their 2023 class teacher in the final week. The sessions have been very successful and have provided valuable information for everyone involved.

2023 HOME GROUP NOTIFICATION AND CLASS PLACEMENT

On Tuesday 13th December, the students will meet their 2023 home group teacher and classmates. We are currently finalising teacher placement and year level locations and will confirm this in the near future.

YEAR THREE CAMP

Year Three attended Camp Jungai last week in what was their first school camp at McKinnon Primary School. Staff and students participated in three days of fun filled adventure activities thoroughly enjoying the experience.

A big thank you to our team who travelled to Camp Jungai to support our Year Three students; Miss Bolin, Mrs Tuyau, Miss Power, Miss Bianchi, Miss Compasso, Mr Kearl, Miss Butta, Mrs Shraddha Apte, Mrs Yasmin Irani, Mr Kieren Reith and Miss Eleanor Borg. Our students are so lucky to have staff who are willing to put in the extra effort to ensure we have a rich camping program at McKinnon.

YEAR SIX GRADUATION

As we come to the end of our school year, we are looking forward to celebrating with our Year Six students as they come to the end of their primary school years. We have a number of events planned for the students to celebrate their final year at McKinnon. This is a very special time for our Year Six students as they look towards their exciting time of transition to secondary school.

COLOUR RUN

Thank you for your wonderful support during this week’s Colour Run. We were very fortunate to be able to go ahead with the event after already having to postpone once this year. It was amazing to see all the fluoro colours and the smiles on everyone’s faces throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone involved in this fantastic school event, particularly our volunteers. Without your efforts and support, these events wouldn’t be able to take place. Finally, a special thanks to Minh Dang. Minh has been working hard behind the scenes for many weeks to bring this event to life. If you see him in the schoolyard, please thank him.

WE ARE STRONG WITHIN

Years Three – Six students participated in the ‘We Are Strong Within’ Language incursion this week. The program promotes healthy conflict management, where students learn to take positive action towards creating an empathetic and respectful environment in school and in later life. Students created an origami chatterbox, showcasing four powerful values: empathy, respect, resilience and fairness. Using the principles of martial arts, students recognised and respected different ways of thinking and interacting. They were encouraged to reflect upon their intercultural experiences and take responsibility for their behaviour.

Hope you all have a great weekend,

Suzanne, David and Andrew
