Welcome to Term Three

We have had a great start to Term Three, with all classes settling quickly back into school routines and getting straight back into learning. We would like to welcome all new students and families to McKinnon this term. We would also like to welcome our new teaching staff: James Newton in Art for this term, Emily Crowley-Holland in 2C, Devon Vacca in 5C, and Laura Millane in 1D. We also welcome back Molly Sweeney in FC.

2024 Enrolments and Departures

A reminder that today is the due date for all new Foundation/ Prep enrolment applications. Please contact the school if you have not completed these enrolments or need any enrolment assistance.

You will find all the necessary information on our school website:

https://mckinnon-primary.vic.edu.au/enrolments-2/

If you are planning on leaving Mckinnon Primary in 2025, it would be greatly appreciated if you could notify the school as soon as possible by emailing the office.

NAPLAN Results

The school has received the NAPLAN results for students in Year Three and Year Five and individual results have been distributed to families. We would like to congratulate and celebrate the fantastic job that our students have done this year. We are very proud and pleased with the overall result. This is a fantastic opportunity for our entire school community to celebrate the amazing culture of teaching and learning at McKinnon Primary School.

Before School Arrivals

This is a reminder to all families that our gates are open and staff are on duty from 8:45 in the morning. A number of students have arrived before this time. If you need your child to be at school earlier, Team Kids provides before-school care, which you can book.

Illness at School

As the days and nights get colder you will have undoubtedly noticed some sickness around our community. We ask that you consider the impact that sending sick children can have on the whole community.

Foundation to Year Two Reading Information Night

Peta MacGregor, our Learning Specialist English, ran a very successful and well-attended session for parents on Tuesday, 16th July. Topics covered included:

  • our Foundation to Year Two reading approach, including information on the ‘Little Learners Love Literacy’ program that all Foundation – Year Two staff have been trained in and are implementing.
  • decodable take-home readers
  • how you can support your child reading at home
  • becoming a reading helper at school.

If you were not able to attend the session but are interested in becoming a reading helper for your child’s class, please contact your child’s teacher.

Hope you all have a great weekend,

David, Andrew and Amanda
